Parent and Teacher Guides For Teaching Reading and Dyslexia

Sixty-five percent of U.S. fourth graders are not proficient readers because their teachers have not been taught how to teach reading using evidence-based methods. Up to 20% of children have dyslexia. Few receive the individualized teaching they need from their schools.

The DOG ON A LOG Parent and Teacher Guides help parents and teachers who want to teach their children to read using an evidence-based, effective method. The learning to read progression is the same for any learner whether they are typical learners or if they have dyslexia. The primary difference is learners with dyslexia will need more repetition and individualized instruction. In these guides, the author introduces essential information for understanding dyslexia and the learning to read process. To make sure both books follow the scientific evidence on dyslexia and the teaching of reading, both books were edited by Dr. Nancy Mather, a professor of learning disabilities, reading, and writing.

Both books can be read for free and downloaded as a printable pdf bookfold for distribution. They are available as a free e-book from many online booksellers. (Merchants my choose to charge at their individual discretion.) Teaching a Struggling Reader: One Mom’s Experience with Dyslexia is available in paperback format.
